Two suspects were arrested in Westchase after a box truck chase that started at a Walmart in west Harris County and ended near Kirkwood Road and Westheimer Road, leaving a third suspect still on the run. The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the chase began Saturday afternoon, July 11, after deputies responded to a theft call at 6060 Fry Road.
Deputies were trying to stop the suspects after they were accused of stealing merchandise, but the group fled in a box truck, the sheriff’s office said. Houston TranStar cameras later showed the truck being followed by law enforcement with lights and sirens along the Katy Freeway, turning a routine theft call into a rolling pursuit across one of the county’s busiest corridors.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the suspects were later seen on Kirkwood Road near Memorial Drive and were moving at low speeds, but still refused to stop. Shortly before 6 p.m., Gonzalez said the suspects bailed out of the truck at the Walmart near Kirkwood Road and Westheimer Road. HCSO said two suspects were taken into custody at that point, while a third got away. The sheriff’s office said the theft involved more than $1,200 in merchandise.

The arrests ended the immediate chase, but they did not fully settle the case because one suspect remained at large and investigators still had to sort out the alleged theft and the flight from deputies. The route also sent the pursuit from northwest Harris County into Westchase, where the truck passed through streets and freeway lanes used by drivers heading to nearby neighborhoods, shopping areas and major commuter routes.

Box truck pursuits in Harris County have turned dangerous before. In a separate case on September 25, 2025, authorities said a box truck chase in west and northwest Harris County involved crashes, a deputy firing one shot and injuries to deputies. That suspect, identified as 35-year-old Mark Williams, faced charges including evading arrest and aggravated assault against a public servant.
