Deputies search for suspect after fatal north Harris County apartment shooting

Deputies with the Harris County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office are searching for a suspect after a man was fatally shot at a north Harris County apartment complex near I-45 and Rankin Road. Investigators said the suspect fled the area after the shooting.

Authorities described the suspect as a tall Hispanic male with a mustache and beard. He was last seen wearing a black tank top and black jeans, and a police perimeter was established as deputies worked the scene.

The killing put another apartment community in north Harris County under the glare of a homicide investigation, with residents likely facing patrol cars, investigators and a search for surveillance video and witnesses. In dense apartment complexes, one shooting can unsettle dozens of households at once because neighbors share parking lots, breezeways and common areas where gunfire can be heard and seen by many people.

The case also comes amid a run of deadly apartment-complex shootings across the region this year. On June 9, a man in his early 20s was shot to death outside a northwest Harris County apartment complex. On Feb. 5, a 17-year-old was shot and killed at an east Harris County apartment complex during an attempted robbery. On July 6, a man was found shot in a pool area of a Rosenberg apartment complex, and the suspect faced a murder charge.

For the north Harris County property, the next steps are likely to include detectives gathering witness statements, canvassing the complex and reviewing any available video. Deputies asked anyone with information about the shooting or the suspect to contact law enforcement, as the search continued around the apartment complex and surrounding streets.
