Harris County flood district advances Seals Gully erosion repairs near Cypress Forest Park

Harris County Flood Control District has advanced major erosion repairs along Seals Gully near Cypress Forest Park and upstream of Ella Blvd., with additional work planned north of Louetta Rd. this year. The current project is listed as CI-012 Seals Gully K124-00-00 and sits inside the district’s Cypress Creek project portfolio.

The work matters because Seals Gully is part of the Little Cypress Creek and Cypress Creek watershed, where stormwater has to move quickly through north Harris County during heavy rain. In earlier maintenance work on the same drainage system, the district completed erosion repairs and restored stormwater-carrying capacity along a 3,350-foot section of Seals Gully between Cypresswood Drive and Haude Road, giving residents a clear measure of how much ground has already been covered.

The latest repairs focus on the stretch near Cypress Forest Park and the reach upstream of Ella Blvd., while the next phase is slated for the area north of Louetta Rd. That leaves the northern section as the next obvious trouble spot before hurricane season, even as the district moves farther through the creek system.

The Seals Gully work is part of the district’s broader Cypress Creek effort, and related district materials link it to major maintenance across the Little Cypress Creek watershed. Harris County Flood Control District was created by the Texas Legislature in 1937 and is governed by Harris County Commissioners Court, a structure that places the county’s flood-control decisions squarely under local public oversight.
