Harris County launches clinic finder for low-cost care nearby

Harris County launched an ArcGIS-based Low-Cost Clinic Finder on Aug. 5, giving residents a county map for free and low-cost care across Houston and Harris County. The tool is aimed at people who are uninsured, underinsured or simply trying to find a clinic close to home without facing a large bill.

Users can enter an address or ZIP code, then choose the type of care they need. People do not need health insurance to receive services at the community clinics and health centers it lists, which matters for families trying to line up primary care, vaccinations, women’s health services, pediatric visits or routine follow-up treatment. Appointments are currently required for Harris County Public Health’s health services, although same-day appointments may be available.

The county’s service network already includes mobile clinics and outreach events. Its mobile health clinics bring free and affordable services to eligible children and adults across the county, including checkups, wellness exams, cancer screenings, STI/HIV testing and treatment, vaccines, Pap exams, pregnancy testing, birth control, referrals, counseling and follow-up care.

The county’s immunization program offers childhood and adult vaccines through the Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas Vaccines for Children and Adult Safety Net programs. Harris County Public Health also provides free or low-cost dental care for children and adolescents at the Humble and Southeast dental clinics, and for adults at the Baytown Dental Clinic.

Leah Barton, appointed executive director of Harris County Public Health in August 2025 after serving as interim director, leads an agency that already relies on navigation and coordination tools. HCPH Connect uses state-certified resource navigators to help vulnerable Harris County residents, and ACCESS Harris County is the department’s integrated care-coordination model for vulnerable residents.
