Houston DoorDash driver hit in police chase, finishes delivery anyway

A Houston DoorDash driver was struck by a fleeing suspect in Greenspoint, got up, picked up the Subway order she was carrying, and finished the delivery before going to the hospital. Miracle Herron, 23, was in the middle of a side job meant to help pay bills when the chase turned into her path and damaged her car.

Court records show police were chasing Torrance Whitaker, who was wanted on a burglary warrant, after an attempted traffic stop in the 13000 block of Northborough Drive. Court records show Whitaker drove up to 100 miles per hour before cutting into the neighborhood where Herron was delivering. The collision hit Herron’s vehicle, and Whitaker later tried to run before police and a K-9 unit caught him. He was charged with aggravated assault in connection with the crash.

Herron works full-time at a call center and does DoorDash on the side. She said she had no broken bones, but was in a lot of pain after the collision and is still weighing whether she wants to keep doing delivery work. She also said she may file an insurance claim against Whitaker’s car insurer.

Lily Portillo, whose cameras captured the impact, said the driver deserved a big tip and hoped someone would find her and make sure she was okay. Neighbor Steve Jones said his cameras showed Whitaker running through several backyards and over fences before police and a K-9 brought him out.

In January 2026, Houston Police Department officials said a separate chase in the Greenspoint area ended in a crash that injured three officers, who refused treatment.
