Possible explosive device found during search warrant in southeast Houston

Harris County Precinct 1 deputies found a possible explosive device inside a southeast Houston home on Gilpin Street near Edgebrook Drive while serving a search warrant Thursday morning, setting off a bomb squad response in a dense residential area.

The Houston Police Department bomb squad was sent to the scene as deputies secured the house. KHOU 11 News reported that one person was taken into custody, but authorities did not release a name, say whether that person was the target of the warrant, or explain what led investigators to believe the item could be explosive.

Residents near the home were left without basic answers about how large the threat area might have been or whether anyone had to leave nearby houses. Officials did not say whether streets around Gilpin Street were blocked, how long the response lasted, or if the search uncovered anything else inside the residence.

ABC13 described the item as a possible explosive device found during a search warrant in southeast Houston. FOX 26 said a bomb squad was called to the home after authorities found a possible explosive while executing the warrant. CW39 also said Harris County authorities had possibly found an explosive device inside the home Thursday morning.

By early reports, the case remained focused on a single house, not a broader evacuation or citywide alert. Even so, investigators had not said whether the item was ultimately confirmed to be explosive, whether it was connected to any wider criminal case, or whether more arrests were expected as the bomb squad investigation continued.
