A family’s GPS alert led relatives to a 19-year-old who had been shot to death in his car in west Harris County, where deputies were called to FM 529 and the Grand Parkway just before 3 a.m. Friday. The killing shut down frontage lanes on SH-99 as investigators worked the scene in the Katy and Cypress area of unincorporated Harris County.
Deputies found the young man in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that was still running, with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the passenger door of the car had several bullet holes.
Detectives believe a gray sedan pulled alongside the victim’s vehicle on the passenger side and fired multiple rounds before fleeing northbound on the Grand Parkway. The suspect car may have been a Hyundai, but no suspect has been identified. They have not determined whether the shooting was random, targeted, or tied to road rage, and the victim has not been publicly identified.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez identified the location as Freeman Road, also known as FM 529, and SH-99. Family members had tracked the car after a GPS device showed it had suddenly stopped moving, then reached the scene as deputies were responding.
CSI and homicide detectives were reviewing surveillance video from nearby businesses and roadway cameras while searching for witnesses and more information about the gray sedan. Anyone with details is asked to call the HCSO Homicide Unit at (713) 274-9100 or Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS (8477).
