Houston man arrested after foot chase in Eastfield Drive theft case

A theft call at a business in the 18600 block of Eastfield Drive ended with the arrest of 49-year-old Eric Eugene Reed of Houston after he ran from Harris County Precinct 8 deputies on foot. What began as a reported property-crime investigation turned into an arrest on an enhanced evading charge.

Precinct 8 identified Reed in a social-media post and said deputies responded to the theft complaint at the Eastfield Drive business before Reed fled. The office said Reed had a prior conviction for evading arrest, which elevated the case to felony evading arrest. That prior conviction matters because it turns the same act of running from officers into a more serious felony charge rather than a lower-level evading case.

The Eastfield Drive location has already come up in another theft call. Precinct 8 also responded to a separate theft-in-progress report at a business in the same 18600 block, placing the corridor on the map for repeated property-crime complaints and quick police responses. In both cases, deputies were dealing with business theft calls in a commercial stretch of Houston where an ordinary report can escalate fast once a suspect tries to leave on foot.
