One person dies in Beltway 8 vehicle fire near Westpark Tollway

A single-car crash on Beltway 8's West Sam Houston Tollway northbound at Central Plaza ended in flames and killed one person. The Harris County Precinct 5 Constable's Office said the wreck was reported late Tuesday night before Highway 290, on a west-side corridor that carries heavy commuter traffic.

Investigators said the vehicle hit the tollway plaza and caught fire. That turned the collision into a fast-moving emergency scene at a toll-road structure, where crews have to secure the area before traffic can fully resume and debris can be cleared.

For drivers, the location matters as much as the fire itself. Central Plaza sits inside the Beltway 8 network that connects the Westpark Tollway, Highway 290 and other west Houston routes, so a crash there can send delays onto nearby feeders and alternate routes.
