Deputies were called to the 5300 block of Tuglow Ravine Lane in west Harris County on Friday afternoon after two 19-year-old neighbors exchanged gunfire in the street-facing driveways of their homes. Both young men were hit multiple times and were rushed to the hospital for surgery.
Investigators said the confrontation began as an argument involving two vehicles before the men got out and started shooting at each other from their driveways. The scene unfolded in a quiet residential block, a setting that quickly turned dangerous as gunfire erupted in the middle of the neighborhood.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said both victims were expected to survive after surgery. As of Friday, investigators had not said whether any charges had been filed, and they did not release additional details about what set off the dispute.
The shooting drew a heavy response from the sheriff’s office, which handles violent-crime calls across one of the nation’s largest local law-enforcement jurisdictions. HCSO says it is the largest sheriff’s office in Texas and the third-largest in the nation, with nearly 5,100 employees and 200 volunteer reservists serving more than 4.1 million residents.

Its patrol area covers 1,788 square miles and includes 41 incorporated municipalities, a scale that makes neighborhood disputes like the one on Tuglow Ravine Lane part of a much larger public-safety workload. The sheriff’s office said its Media Relations Office handles routine media inquiries and asks callers to be specific about the incident, including the type of case, date, approximate time and address.
For residents in west Harris County, the shooting was a reminder of how fast a neighbor dispute can become a crime scene. A disagreement that started in vehicles ended with two teenagers undergoing surgery, and detectives are still working to sort out what happened before the shots were fired.
