Two people were shot early Friday in a northeast Harris County Home Depot parking lot as a takeover-style gathering spilled across nearby businesses along Eastex Freeway and Little York Road. One victim drove away and was later found off the Beltway before being taken to the hospital, while the other went into a nearby Whataburger for help.

Harris County sheriff’s deputies said the shooting happened about 1:15 a.m. on July 10 in the shopping-center lot shared by Home Depot, Walgreens and a bank. Investigators said an altercation broke out before shots were fired, and it was still unclear how many people were at the scene when the violence started. The two victims are both believed to be in their early 20s, and authorities have not released their conditions.

The scene extended beyond the parking lot itself. One injured man entered Whataburger and asked for help after the shooting. An employee described him as appearing to be about 19 or in his early 20s and said he asked for water before saying he had been shot and lifting his shirt to show the wound. The other victim drove away from the lot before later being found off the Beltway and rushed to a hospital.

Deputies have not released suspect information and said they are still working to determine what led to the gunfire. Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit at (713) 274-9100 or Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS (8477).

The shooting adds to a pattern of takeover-style violence that has put pressure on businesses and overnight workers in northeast Harris County. In nearby Houston, police say their Traffic Crimes Task Force was created on Dec. 12, 2020, to disrupt hostile street takeover groups in Harris County. The Houston Police Department says the unit’s mission is to break up those gatherings before they turn dangerous.

The same part of northeast Harris County has already seen a deadly outcome from a similar scene. On June 15, 2025, a parking-lot shooting at Stampede Night Club on Eastex Freeway left one man dead and two others injured. Harris County Sheriff’s Office officials say the agency has nearly 5,100 employees and serves more than 4.1 million residents, a scale that underscores how quickly these late-night events can overwhelm a commercial strip and put nearby customers, workers and first responders at risk.
